Glassdoor users - HEADS UP. In the interest of treating their users equally (badly), Glassdoor now requires a verifiable name for every account (this is a new policy). They're going so far to add names to older accounts if they learn that information, even if YOU are not the one who provided it. This means if you left a review at any time, your name could now be back-added to that review. If you use gmail for your account or log in from your Google account, this part of Glassdoor's policy will be of particular interest to you: "By continuing, Google will share your name, email address, language preference and profile picture with Glassdoor.”
There will be people who aren't bothered by this policy. If you fall into that camp, that's great! This post isn't for you. This post is for those who post questions as part of a confidential job search. This post is for those who have provided, under the insulation of anonymity, accurate and cautionary alerts about horrendous managers, policies, culture, etc.
If those reviews weren't necessary, Glassdoor would never have existed in the first place. Without honest reviews, there's nothing special or unique that distinguishes Glassdoor in the career advancement space. They simply are not industry leaders in their other service categories.
Why are they doing this? I don't know. Perhaps they are shifting to a data collection/data selling model...?
Sidenote: if you want to kill your Glassdoor account, it's not enough to click on 'delete'. That deactivates, but they'll still have your information. Apparently you have to provide them all the information you don't want them to have, in order to fully delete your account. So...good luck with that.
